Just one shot is high in vitamins and antioxidnts
You may have been downing them on Saturday night, but why not start your morning with a shot? Don’t panic we’re not advocating Sambuca on a Monday morning before work, but a shot of wheatgrass could set you up for the day.
‘I won’t say I love wheatgrass, but I do love the benefits it gives me,’ says Geeta Sidhu Robb, founder of Nosh Detox (www.noshdetox.com). ‘You do have to get used to the taste but by mixing it with another juice, such as apple juice, I find it helps you get this wonder food down a bit easier.’
Wheatgrass is the young grass of the wheat plant. The potent ingredient in wheatgrass is chlorophyll and this is what gives plants their green colour. It grows in Europe and the United States and is a natural source of Vitamins A, E and B12, calcium, magnesium, selenium and iron.
According to Sidhu Robb a 30ml shot of wheatgrass juice is equivalent to the vitamin and mineral content of 30g of fresh vegetables. So if you’re looking to give your vitamin and antioxidant levels a boost why not opt for a quick shot of this powerful green stuff.
‘Wheatgrass juice works tohelp alkalize your body and is also a powerful health food supplement that is packed with highly concentrated vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll and enzymes,’ she says. ‘Nutritionally, wheatgrass is a complete food that contains 98 of the 102 earth elements and wheatgrass juice is an excellent way to get dark greens in the diet – pound for pound, it’s more than twenty times denser in nutrients than other vegetables and juicing unlocks even more nutrients from wheatgrass, making them more concentrated and usable to the cells of the body.’
